Website Design Process

Trust Sophia Kelly to make your website do the job it was intended for.

Do you need your website to:

  • Provide a way for people to get in contact with you?
  • Establish credibility with potential customers or donors?
  • Answer frequently asked questions  to save reception staff time?
  • Provide documentation or information you might otherwise have to mail or email out?
  • Showcase your products or services?
  • Encourage donations and support of your organization?

Our design process starts with listening closely to your answer to this question:

Who are your ideal web visitors (demographically) and what do you ideally want them to do?

Once we know that, most of the design can follow from this answer.

From there we are guided by your organizations’ brand. If you already have a logo, colours and font that fits your marketing goals, your website will need to match and complement these. If you don’t, then we can discuss your options.

Based on your brand and logo, we will recommend a colour scheme and font face and size. We can then discuss a header image, or create one using existing graphics or logo. For more detailed information on the choices we will make together about your new website please visit our anatomy of a website page.

Do you want to use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or RSS to help you reach and stay in touch with people? We can discuss their fit for your organization with you and set them up to complement and match your brand.

Cost

Cost depends not only on the  complexity and size of your site, but on the process we use to create and approve the design and content.

It is helpful to think about:

1) Do you already have a logo, specific fonts you use, and a specified style for your organization? Does it fit the profile of the customers you would like to visit your site and what you would like them to do? If so, using this existing brand will not only keep your marketing materials consistent, but simplify the website design process and reduce unnecessary costs.

2) Do you have a single individual in your organization who is empowered to make final decisions on the look of the website or does a group of people need to reach consensus to approve a design? Delegating this approval to one individual will speed up the process and reduce costs.

3) Do you have existing content for the pages or will we be providing content writing or editing services? If you are providing the content for the pages, keep in mind that in general introductory pages of your site will be brief, with more detailed pages linked off of it. The text is more similar to a newspaper article, with the most important details listed first, as they are the most likely to be read. This is because readers have a shorter attention span when reading a website than when reading printed text. Text will need to be concise to be effective, with links to more detail if required.

In general, the ballpark cost for a custom website design and setup is $3000-5000.  We offer some bare-bones setup service packages using your choice of a  pre-existing template that start from $600 as well.  We would be happy to discuss options that fit your budget or funding.
