Are you a business-owner with a website that could benefit from customer word of mouth and testimonials? Are you a charity or non-profit who would like to get your message out using social media?

Are you worried you won’t have a lot of time to maintain a Facebook or Twitter presence for your business? Are you concerned about privacy issues?

Tailored Tech is offering an affordable package to get you started with social media. Call us now at 604-255-3450 to get started.

Facebook Setup Services Package

Facebook allows you to take word of mouth promotion online. A Facebook fan page allows you to build a following of ‘fans’ on facebook. When your fans interact with your Facebook Page, stories linking to your Page can go to their friends via Facebook’s news feed. As these friends interact with your page, news feed keeps driving word-of-mouth to a wider circle of friends.

We will

Set up your Facebook account.

Set up a Facebook Fan Page.

Add information you supply to the Fan Page.

Set up a live link from your RSS-enabled site to publish your web content automatically into Facebook, so you can keep a steady stream of useful information flowing to your fans for them to spread the word about.

Provide you with a Facebook fan page ‘badge’ to put on your website. A badge featured prominently on your website allows people visiting your website to see the support from your existing fans and is a primary way of attracting fans.

Give you advice (personalized for your organization) on how to use Facebook going forward.

$240 flat fee
Ongoing administration and content services available at reasonable rates.

Our design process starts with listening closely to your answer to this question: Who are your ideal web visitors, and what do you ideally want them to do?

Trust Tailored Tech to make your website do the job it was intended for.

Do you need your website to:

Provide a way for people to get in contact with you?

Establish credibility with potential customers or donors?

Answer frequently asked questions to save reception staff time?

Provide documentation or information you might otherwise have to mail or email out?

Showcase your products or services?

Encourage donations and support of your organization?

Our design process starts with listening closely to your answer to this question:

Who are your ideal web visitors (demographically) and what do you ideally want them to do?

Once we know that, most of the design can follow from this answer.

From there we are guided by your organizations’ brand. If you already have a logo, colours and font that fits your marketing goals, your website will need to match and complement these. If you don’t, then we can discuss your options.

Based on your brand and logo, we will recommend a colour scheme and font face and size. We can then discuss a header image, or create one using existing graphics or logo. For more detailed information on the choices we will make together about your new website please visit our anatomy of a website page.

Do you want to use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or RSS to help you reach and stay in touch with people? We can discuss their fit for your organization with you and set them up to complement and match your brand.

Cost

Cost depends not only on the complexity and size of your site, but on the process we use to create and approve the design and content.

It is helpful to think about:

1) Do you already have a logo, specific fonts you use, and a specified style for your organization? Does it fit the profile of the customers you would like to visit your site and what you would like them to do? If so, using this existing brand will not only keep your marketing materials consistent, but simplify the website design process and reduce unnecessary costs.

2) Do you have a single individual in your organization who is empowered to make final decisions on the look of the website or does a group of people need to reach consensus to approve a design? Delegating this approval to one individual will speed up the process and reduce costs.

3) Do you have existing content for the pages or will we be providing content writing or editing services? If you are providing the content for the pages, keep in mind that in general introductory pages of your site will be brief, with more detailed pages linked off of it. The text is more similar to a newspaper article, with the most important details listed first, as they are the most likely to be read. This is because readers have a shorter attention span when reading a website than when reading printed text. Text will need to be concise to be effective, with links to more detail if required.

In general, the ballpark cost for a custom website design and setup is $3000-5000. We offer some bare-bones setup service packages using your choice of a pre-existing template that start from $600 as well. We would be happy to discuss options that fit your budget or funding.

If you’d like an estimate specific to your needs, please call us at 604-255-3450 or complete and send in our website design checklist.

Let's walk through the options for web-safe fonts, layout and colour schemes.

[Back to the Website Design Process Page]

There are actually a limited number of basic design styles for a business website. Our streamlined web design service takes a basic template and adapts it to your needs.

You can choose:

The websafe font family you wish to use for your site.[Here are the available options].
Tip: Websafe fonts are print styles that most computers already have. If you use a font that is not listed here on your website and a customer views your site who doesn’t have that font on their own computer, your website will not display that font properly.

The colour scheme. A good way to pick which colour scheme you want to use is to start with your logo or business identity’s colours and pick colours that complement it. To do this we will need the computer colour value of your logo colours (hex, rgb, pantone etc…) or if you don’t have that, just provide us with an electronic copy of your logo and we will determine it for you. Based on that colour we will supply you with a list of colour codes to choose from for various section of your site, or if you wish, we can make these choices for you.

The target audience: What demographic information do you have about your ideal clients or web visitors? For example, older adults will prefer a larger font size and straightforward navigation. In general, women will prefer different graphics than men. Engineers will prefer different graphics than design professionals.

Anatomy of a website:

Even websites that don’t seem to have square edges will actually have a ’skeleton’ made of the following square shapes. Rounded looks are achieved using background images. To set up your template, we will need to select a colour, width, height, border and optionally an image for each of the following areas. All websites you see, no matter how different they look will almost certainly have most or all of the features listed below.

The background and container: In order to design for hundreds of browser and screen resolution combinations, the most common style for a website is a band of text and information down the centre of the page, with a background image or colour to the left and right. The background image can be a single image repeated, or one large image that covers the entire background.

The header: This is typically where you will see the company’s logo, either alone or combined with other images.

The navigation: This is an easy to find series of buttons or text that show the pages you want your customers to go to first or which they will generally expect to see. Common pages are: About, Contact, Products, Services, News. The navigation doesn’t normally contain all the pages on the site, unless you only have a few.

The body: This is where you have the text. Generally we want this area to be white or light coloured and have no background image. This is because you want the text to be readable – that’s why the visitor is there. If the text is hard to read, the web visitor will give up and go somewhere else in a hurry. Unless the page is devoted to a detailed subject, the web visitor will also be unlikely to scroll down, so we will make sure that the most important information is at the top where a person doesn’t need to scroll to see it. If more detailed information is available, it can be put on sub-pages with links on the main page for the topic. You will also probably want to have pictures mixed in with the text.

MSN website screen capture - you can see it has all of these elements.

The footer: This is typically where the copyright message is for the site, and the basic contact information. Also there is sometimes a text-only version of the navigation bar, to make it easier for visitors who have turned off the images on their browser.

The sidebar: This is a column to the left or right (sometimes both) of the main body of the website. It usually has another copy of the navigation information, plus information you would like to feature on each page, such as your Facebook or Twitter information, news, promotions, or donation button. It also commonly has a search box to help people find what they are looking for on your site.

All of the above six items are present in the basic template shown here. You can pick the colours and border style and thickness for each of the above six elements.

If your organization receives in-kind donations of goods or services, one traditional way of converting those donations to cash has been some form of auction, iether a live or silent auction. Why not make it easier for people to participate by having your auction on the web?

If your organization receives in-kind donations of goods or services, one traditional way of converting those donations to cash has been some form of auction, either a live or silent auction. Silent auctions are where potential purchasers write their bids on a piece of paper and when bids are closed, the highest bid wins. These types of auctions are typically done during events. One modern alternative to the silent auction, particularly in organizations with high numbers of page views or a large email distribution list of persons interested in your mission is to hold an online auction.

The simplest way to hold a charity ‘silent auction’ online is to use Ebay Canada’s charity auction service. In brief, after validating that you are a registered Canadian charity, Ebay Canada will donate back to you the standard fees involved with selling your items. Non-profits who are not registered charities can also use the service, but are not eligible for the fee donation.

For example:

A registered charity called ‘Good People Doing Good Things’ (GPDGT) holds an auction, selling off some donated restaurant gift certificates, a boat and some gift baskets. The items sell for a total of $10,000. Ebay collects the money from the buyer, deducts their processing and payment fees, and sends GPDGT a cheque for $9950 (exact fees will vary). A few weeks later, Ebay will also donate amount of the fees (in this case $50) to the charity.

Donated items sell for:
Ebay Fees:
Ebay remits to GPDGT:
Ebay donates to GPDGT:
Total funds raised:

$10,000
$ 50
$ 9,950
$ 50
$10,000

The GPDGT sale items are listed alongside all the other items. GPDGT features a new donated item for sale on their website each month, with links to that item on ebay so people can bid, along with an acknowledgement of the donor of the item and link to the donor business’ website. GPDP also features the donated items in their monthly e-newsletter, with links to the online auction.

Tailored Tech can provide the following services to help Canadian charities and non-profits to host their own online charity auctions.

????????????

Professionally photograph your donated items to their best advantage and prepare images for website and Ebay listing use.

????????

Create a web feature on your organizations website to help promote the items and recognize donors.

Set up and manage opt-in mailing lists on your site to help you stay in touch with your donors, members and others interested in your mission.

Create and administer attractive html emails that promote your auction, services, and other information relating to your mission

Handle the paperwork and links to set up a web auction (documentation of charity status will require some input from your staff).
